File Sizes in Frog

How to...? guide on how to manage files larger than 100MB in Frog.

The aim of this guide is to introduce you to:

File Sizes in Frog

Frog can accept any uploads to FrogDrive or assignments up to 100 MB. It also can accept many different file types. If you wish to work with files that are larger than 100MB in Frog, or include larger files to assignments, or require students to present work in as a large file - there are a few options you can choose.

Attaching/inserting large files into a site

Frog can handle many different file sizes and display and embed them in sites. However, if the file is greater than 100MB, you should instead store these files using you DfE Google Drive or OneDrive and provide a link to this file on your Frog site. To do this:

  1. Add a Link to website widget to a Frog page
  2. Locate the file in your Google Drive or OneDrive
  3. Copy the URL with the correct sharing permissions ("anyone with the link can view")
  4. Paste this URL into the Link to website widget edit settings in Frog
  5. Name you link and upload an image to help other users to easily identify the link (optional)
  6. Save and close the edit menu.

When a visitor to your Frog site selects this link, a new tab will open in your browser and display the shared file.

You can also insert hyperlinks in any text on a Frog site.

  1. Add a Text widget to a Frog page
  2. Type in the text you require
  3. Highlight the text you wish to make into a hyperlink
  4. Select the insert link button
  5. Paste the sharing link to the file stored in OneDrive or Google Drive.

Adding large files to assignments.

In some classes, educators may be working with large file sizes and want to include them as part of a set assignment. For example:

  • Photoshop files
  • Video and audio files
  • Zip files containing many files.

As part of the assignment workflow, the Resources step in the process allows the user to add a URL as a link. This feature allows an educator to include large files stored and shared in Google Drive or OneDrive.

Large files in assignments

Frog will display an error if a student attempts to upload a file of size greater than 100MB. It is recommended that students store these files on a Google Drive or OneDrive instead of Frog.

Setting up an assignment to accept large files

It is also common for students working with large file sizes to be required to respond to a assignment or task by providing access to a large file. This can also be managed in Frog by adding a Text activity widget to either a new assignment or to a Frog page that will be assigned to a student(s). The Text activity widget includes the feature to allow students to add a link to the text field. When students submit the large file, instruct them to copy and paste the link to their large file saved in their Google Drive or OneDrive into the Text activity, then Save changes.
